Our Future Textiles education programme is available in various locations and levels.
From introductory programmes for secondary school pupils through to internationally recognised training in luxury apparel manufacturers through our Modern Artisan partnership with Yoox Net a Porter.
About Future Textiles
Our Future Textile programme is designed to address a skills gap within the UK textile industry and encourage new entrants with relevant vocational skills. The programme is targeted at secondary school pupils alongside community groups and adults wishing to enter the industry.
Our focus on sustainable practices promotes awareness and understanding of how the next generation can have a positive impact within a vast range of careers in the fashion and textile industry.
Supporters of the programme include major retailers and brands such as YOOX Net-a-Porter, Alexander McQueen and Christopher Kane. As well as having the opportunity to develop sewing skills, there are workshops in woven and knitted textiles and hand and machine embroidery.
Future Textiles Atelier
Many of our Future Textiles programmes are delivered at our atelier on the Dumfries House Estate.
At Dumfries House, we teach a variety of programmes – from school workshops which encourage young people to develop an awareness of the industry, to community sewing or knitting groups that support the local community to connect and practice these traditional skills.
Specialist programmes
We offer a range of specialist programmes as part of Future Textiles that offer students in-depth training to produce garments for the luxury fashion markets.
The CHANEL and King’s Foundation Métiers d’Arts Fellowship in partnership with le19M started in 2022 with the Embroidery Fellowship and has since expanded to Millinery. These highly skilled training programmes are based at the CHANEL Metiers d’Art Training Atelier on site at Highgrove Gardens.
