Our work in the built environment
We deliver high-quality placemaking projects across the globe, all with community, sustainability and long-term stewardship in mind.
About our work and our services
We work with communities and partners to deliver projects in the UK and around the world, focusing on architecture, heritage, urbanism and landscape, and rapid planning. We put into practice our design principles which are responsive to local traditions, cultures and climates, within the philosophy of Harmony embodied by the wider work of The King’s Foundation.

Urban Design and Masterplanning
Our principles of development and place-making are about creating sustainable urban settlements, based on walkable neighbourhoods with a mix of tenures and uses, which we understand as key elements of resilient and enduring places.
Heritage and Regeneration
The King’s Foundation’s work to reinvigorate existing buildings through creative regeneration has helped to revitalise communities and to preserve heritage, protecting the collective memory of these places.
Architectural Design
Our design process learns from local traditions, materials and techniques to deliver standards of quality and sustainability in new designs to tackle the challenges we face today. We believe the most beautiful buildings draw upon their surroundings (both built and natural) to harmonise with them.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
The King’s Foundation’s ‘’Enquiry by Design’ process facilitates effective and continuous engagement with stakeholders and members of the community to collaborate on any new or existing plans for the future of their place.
Strategic Planning
Building on our experience of working with communities worldwide who face environmental and social vulnerabilities, we work with partners locally to build resilience through planning, design and programming.
Championing
Part of our work includes convening individuals and organisations to share best practice and promote exemplars. Through events, networks and research we promote innovative solutions and alternative approaches. In the UK, this includes a network of landowners delivering legacy development, and internationally includes methodologies such as the Rapid Planning Toolkit.
