If you do not have a prior relevant qualification we will still consider your application as assessment is made on your portfolio as well as tutor reference. The course recognises different forms of prior learning.
We are interested in receiving applications from people who:
1) Are interested in pursuing a career in fashion and textiles and are committed to undertaking an intensive training programme
2) Can demonstrate previous training or prior learning in the field. This can be formal or informal training
3) Can confidently present a portfolio which shows technical process, design development and their creative influences
4) Can identify the skills they wish to develop during this training programme.
Please tell us why you are applying to The Métiers d’Art Partnership – Atelier Fellowship and how it will help you with your future plans and aspirations. Please use these questions to guide your answer:
In your written submission, please explain:
– Why you have chosen this example
– How you would interpret its qualities in your own practice
– How you might translate these ideas through silhouette, movement, colour, texture, and material
Your portfolio should include 15 pages showcasing your inspiration, creative process, technical skills, and final projects. This should be uploaded using the link below on the same day that you submit this application form.
This portfolio should include text and images showing:
– Research and design development (mood boards, drawings, influences)
– Work in progress, prototypes and samples
– Finished garments demonstrating precision and finish
– A clear visual identity that reflects your personal style
We are particularly interested in how your work has progressed over time and how you approach problem-solving in design and making.
Please include your full name in the pdf file name and mark your file clearly as the Atelier Fellowship.
We would also like you to submit a short 2-minute video. Your short video should be an introduction of yourself, your practice and your personality.
Please talk through a key piece from your portfolio, reflecting on technical process, design development, and creative influences. We would also like you to outline areas of technical skill and design that you would like to develop, and how you feel this programme could support your career development.
We recommend you record your video on a laptop or a phone while sitting at a desk, somewhere well-lit and quiet.
Face forward and look into the camera.
If you are using notes, try to use these as prompts rather than reading a script. Try to be relaxed and show us your personality
Please send this to us as an MPEG 4 video file, via WeTransfer using this link or to future.textiles@kings-foundation.org Please ensure your name is in the title of the video and mark your email ‘Atelier Fellowship’.
