Dates

Friday 6 December 2024 – Friday 14 February 2025

Our Garden Education Team are delighted to bring you two Secondary stage workshops this winter. Focusing on Horticulture Skills, our Earth Matters workshop looks to open up the earth beneath our feet and asks  “what makes up soil and why is it essential to all of our lives?”. This workshop will cover the basics of soil composition, biology and nutrient cycles and its importance for food production and beyond! Participants will build enquiry and experimental skills through fieldwork, and apply their learning in our market garden. Alternatively, our Sustainable Sourcing workshop invites students to explore the entire journey our food makes from source to consumer, the food waste associated with that, and the environmental impact. This workshop includes a visit to our rare breeds farm to learn what makes a sustainable animal product.

Our school education workshops support the delivery of The Curriculum For Excellence, and many of our activities are based outdoors on our 2,000 acre estate, making use of our natural spaces to inspire learning. The King’s Foundation works in harmony with the natural world, and as such our workshops also touch upon the UN Sustainable Development goals and support learning for sustainability. Please see below for further workshop details.
