Perspectives on the Urban Edge

Download the report

As a follow-up to our Balancing Urban and Rural Land Use workshop organised in April 2024 at Highgrove, we were keen to build on the high quality of contributions and pull together a short publication comprised of a series of essays on the periurban condition, thus Perspectives on the urban edge came to life.

The report features contributions from James Alcock (Plunkett UK), Ben Bolgar (The King’s Foundation), Christopher Boyle KC (Landmark Chambers), Alan Carter (The Land Trust), Dieter Helm (University of Oxford), Dame Fiona Reynolds (CPRE), Maddy Longhurst (Urban Agriculture Consortium), Gail Mayhew (Smart Growth Associates),  Kim Wilkie (Landscape Consultant), Mark Walton (Shared Assets), Patrick Holden (Sustainable Food Trust), Roger Mortlock (CPRE), Vicki Hird (The Wildlife Trusts), Dr Wei Yang (Wei Yang & Partners) and Barbara Young (House of Lords).

The purpose of the publication is to help stimulate discussions and raise the quality of discourse and creativity about the urban edge particularly in the context of the new government’s suggestions around Grey Belt.
