The STEM team at Dumfries House host a number of public events throughout the year, giving local communities a chance to get involved in science, technology, engineering and maths innovation in their local area.
The STEM team deliver several public events throughout the year, some examples of which are detailed below.
Example Events
Innovate and Inspire: STEM Careers Conference: Tuesday 16th September 2025.
This is a free event, for Secondary Schools groups only.
This will be the first STEM Careers Conference hosted by The King’s Foundation, in recognition of 10 years of innovative STEM delivery reaching over 20,000 young people since 2015. The conference takes place at Dumfries House from 10am until 3pm.
Featuring two keynote speakers, three industry expert panels and a hands-on carousel of skills demonstrations and have-a-go activities delivered by local and national employers this conference aims to inspire up to 250 secondary students to pursue careers STEM and demonstrate how STEM innovations are driving positive change to protect our planet for the future.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Please note any allergy/ dietary requirements/additional support needs on the booking form to ensure these needs can be accommodated.
To allow the event to reach those unable to attend the full day, between 14.30 – 15.00 parents, guardians and teachers who could not attend will be allowed to visit the exhibition. These tickets will be verified with the schools for safeguarding purposes. Please ensure you choose the correct ticket type at time of booking.

STEM Open Day: (Free event, during the Summer holidays, exact date TBC) A big open doors FREE public event showcasing the exciting STEM industry and innovation going on in the South West of Scotland. Previous years have given visitors a change to fly drones, try out virtual reality and have a go in a fire truck so keep your eyes peeled for what’s in store this year.
British Science Week, Easter and Christmas Day Family Workshops: (£8 per child, see booking information below for confirmation of dates) A series of themed holiday events that combine learning and fun for you and your children.
Holiday clubs: (£40 per child, see booking information below for confirmation of dates) Examples include a summer coding club, and an easter environmental club.
