“Plants Please” & “BeeoDiversity” – Early Primary – Full Day Workshop – 10am – 2pm
This workshop combines Plants Please in the Garden with Bee-odiversity at STEM. Are you ready to discover the wonders of plants and the busy lives of pollinators? In this hands-on, outdoor workshop, early primary pupils will explore our Education Garden, learning about plant growth, life cycles, and how to care for them. They’ll sow seeds to take back to their classroom and go on a flower hunt to observe the diversity of plants around them. Interactive activities will introduce pupils to pollination and the vital role of bees and other pollinators in our ecosystem. Perfect for curious young learners ready to dig into the world of plants and nature!
Note: This workshop takes place outdoors and involves walking around the estate. In cases of extreme weather, an alternative activity may be offered.
Wonder Worms & Seasonal Cycles – Late Primary – Full Day Workshop – 10am – 2pm
Combining Wonder Worms in the Education Garden and Seasonal Cycles in our STEM Centre, in this hands-on, outdoor workshop, late primary pupils will dig into the hidden world beneath our feet and explore the natural cycles above. They’ll investigate the lives of worms and how these soil superheroes help plants grow, while also taking part in citizen science to track seasonal changes in plants and animals. Pupils will discover phenology—the timing of natural events—and how our changing climate can affect these cycles, making this a perfect workshop for curious minds ready to connect soil, seasons, and science!
Note: This workshop takes place outdoors and involves walking around the estate. In cases of extreme weather, an alternative activity may be offered.
Estate of Nature and Pests? – Early Secondary – Full Day Workshop – 10am – 3pm
Estate of Nature in STEM teams up with Pests? in the Education Garden in this interactive, outdoor workshop, where early secondary stage pupils will explore the Education Garden and Estate grounds to investigate the balance between food production and local wildlife. Pupils will study what makes a pest, learn strategies to protect crops while supporting ecosystems, and use camera trap data to observe non-native species, pests, and plant diseases. Through hands-on activities and research, they’ll discuss native versus invasive species and discover how humans and wildlife can coexist in thriving, sustainable gardens.
Note: This workshop takes place outdoors and involves walking around the estate. In cases of extreme weather, an alternative activity may be offered.
Our school education workshops support the delivery of The Curriculum for Excellence, and many of our activities are based outdoors on our 2000 acre estate, making use of our natural spaces to inspire learning.
