Trailblazers: Exploring, Mapping, Monitoring
Step into a hands-on, cross-curricular adventure with our combined Pathfinders and Mapping & Monitoring workshop, designed especially for early secondary pupils. Blending outdoor learning with real-world science, this session builds essential skills in navigation, fieldwork, teamwork, and environmental understanding. Pupils will explore the Dumfries House Estate through clearly marked routes, identifying landmarks, solving challenges, and working together with growing confidence. They’ll also investigate the landscape as young environmental scientists—reading, using and creating maps to record data, monitor biodiversity, and draw meaningful conclusions about the health of our habitats. This workshop connects STEM learning with the natural world, giving students a deeper appreciation of the environment and their role within it.
Our school education workshops support the delivery of The Curriculum for Excellence, and many of our activities are based outdoors on our 2000 acre estate, making use of our natural spaces to inspire learning. The King’s Foundation works in harmony with the natural world, and as such our workshops also touch upon the UN Sustainable Development goals and support learning for sustainability.
